Prior to forming Next Stage Advisors, Mr. Murphy was an investment banker, executive and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience building and financing mid-market companies. His experience includes successfully financing high growth companies, recruiting and building management teams, acquisitions, joint-ventures and strategic alliances, turnarounds, and business and strategic planning. In 1998, Mr. Murphy joined Harry’s Fresh Foods as CFO. Mr. Murphy helped lead the Company’s growth from $10 million in revenues to more than $70 million. He led the Company’s efforts in several rounds of financing, including the financing and construction of state-of-the-art USDA manufacturing facility and the sale of a minority interest to TSG Consumer Partners.
In addition to growing Harry’s Fresh Foods, Mr. Murphy was also the CFO and an investor in downstream [sic], a design firm that specializes in creating branded and experiential environments. Mr. Murphy managed the company’s finance and operational activities through a 300% growth in revenues, while leading the successful transformation of the business from a local-provider of video post-production services to a nationally-recognized design firm serving Fortune 100 companies and major universities.
Prior to his entrepreneurial and executive experience with Harry’s and downstream [sic], Mr. Murphy had a successful career in investment banking. He spent 15 years as a principal with Torwest Capital, a mid-market investment banking firm that specialized in serving privately-held Pacific Northwest companies. Mr. Murphy led the successful completion of more than 50 M&A and corporate finance transactions with an aggregate value of more than $500 million.
